Key duties & Responsibilities
- assistance with tissue sample and other standard laboratory activities.
- assistance with the mechanical inoculation of diseases such as bacteria, fungi, oomycete, nematodes, and viruses in growth chambers, greenhouses, and fields.
- Use insects or other vectors to aid in the bioassay procedure.
- assistance with routine data entry into company systems and collecting from research initiatives of varied sizes.
- Assist in the creation of succinct, precise, and lucid outcomes reports and their dissemination to stakeholders or colleagues.
- Carry out or oversee basic to advanced molecular laboratory tasks.
- Utilize both parametric and non-parametric statistical models to analyze data.
- Examine the literature and keep up of emerging technological developments.

Requirements
- ongoing master’s program in crop protection and plant pathology at an accredited university.
- An extra benefit will be having experience in the following fields;
- overseeing and assisting with field, glasshouse, and laboratory biotic phenotyping operations.
- assistance with tissue sample and other standard laboratory activities.
- assistance with the mechanical inoculation of pathogens such as oomycete, nematodes, bacteria, fungus, and viruses in growth chambers, greenhouses, and fields.
- Use insects or other vectors to aid in the bioassay procedure.
- assistance with routine data entry into company systems and collecting from research initiatives of varied sizes.
- working familiarity with inoculum production, microscopic identification, purification, and culture of laboratory pathogens.
- practical understanding of molecular identification methods such as PCR technology and DNA and RNA separation.
- Proficiency in writing journals and reports is necessary.
- Ability to prepare concise reports or fill out forms on a daily basis without assistance, as well as to communicate verbally in both Swahili and English.
- Adequate proficiency to operate the typical Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and email programs used at CIAT and Alliance of Bioversity with sporadic help.
- Reputable authoring documentation, computer programs, and more IT resources.
- Capacity to oversee and instruct field personnel in managing breeding research operations.
- Capacity to work alone with little daily supervision and proactively address issues.
- knowledge of legume crops and associated research procedures (pollination, gathering trial and nursery data, etc.).

Terms of employment
With its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, this role is a nationwide recruitment opportunity.The original contract has a one-year term that can be extended based on performance and resource availability after a three-month probationary period.
According to the Alliance employment classification framework policy, this post is graded at BG 04 level, with a minimum basic salary of 915,302 Tanzania Shillings on a range of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level).
