The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on behalf of the United Republic of Tanzania. As such TCRA has received an opportunity from the ITU to nominate candidates for consideration to be part of the next cohort of the ITU Generation Connect Youth Envoys. Candidates should be Tanzanian’s aged between 18 and 24 who are interested in being part of the ITU Generation Connect Youth Envoy cohort for the Africa region.

Candidates are required to express and provide evidence of their personal dedication and participation, in the use of ICTS for educational purposes, socio-economic advancement, or youth empowerment. This dedication can be showcased in numerous ways, such as gaining and disseminating knowledge, taking part in local initiatives, or designing, developing, and implementing (including ongoing) specific actions or impactful projects at a community, national, regional, or global level.

  • Age: Must be between 18 and 24 years old on the date of the application deadline.
  • Education: Candidates from diverse educational backgrounds are welcome, including from informal education backgrounds (without recognised academic degrees) – if they can prove their knowledge and/or specific interest in ICTs, reflected in the implementation of the projects/activities they have led and/or played a significant role in.
  • Commitment/Dedication: Candidates are required to express and provide evidence of their personal dedication and participation, as of the application date, in the use of ICTs for educational purposes, socio-economic advancement, or youth empowerment. This dedication can be showcased in numerous ways, such as gaining and disseminating knowledge, taking part in local initiatives, or designing, developing, and implementing (including ongoing) specific actions or impactful projects at a community, national, regional, or global level.
  • Measurable Results: Candidates should share measurable outcomes from their previous and/or the ongoing activities and/or projects using ICTs towards educational, and/or socio-economic advancement.

Applicants’ assets in the selection process:

  • Education: STEM, Social & Human Sciences and Law studies represent an asset considering that these background studies will enable understanding and facilitate involvement of selected young leaders in the work of ITU.
  • Volunteer Work: Evidence of previous volunteer work to support educational and/or socioeconomic outcomes at the community level would be an asset.
  • Interest in SDGs and/or UN-related work for equal and equitable digital inclusion and/or empowerment of youth though ICTs: Candidates who display their commitment and dedication towards the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and related global commitments, and/or who express a readiness to contribute to UN and/or global activities, would be highly valued.
  • Focus on Vulnerable Groups: Candidates who demonstrate in their applications their dedication and actions towards helping vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities, migrants, and those from remote areas or communities, would be highly valued.

Based on the aforementioned criteria, four (4) candidates will be shortlisted from the applicants and contacted in order to apply for the next stage by Saturday, February 10th, 2024.
