About; NMB Bank PLC (NMB) is the leading full service commercial bank in Tanzania. NMB is looking to recruit a Chief Credit Officer (CCO) who will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Credit, Loan Centre and Special Assets Management functions and providing an oversight to all aspects of lending operations. The CCO will participate in Management and other committee meetings in support of the bank’s overall strategy and in the support of the bank’s day to day operations, ensuring loan portfolio growth, risk management and contribution to earnings. The CCO will also enforce ongoing training in best of breed credit analysis, credit management and data analytic trends.

Responsibilities

  • Help the bank achieve its overarching business plan objectives and optimize loan profitability while adhering to its established risk framework, especially with regard to the bank’s at-risk portfolio and non-performing loans.
  • Create, put into effect, and keep an eye on adherence to credit policies, practices, and processes that strategically support the bank’s risk goals.
  • In charge of credit administration (loans documentation and collateral, monitoring, collections, and central disbursements of all retail and MSE loans), credit quality assurance (support and monitor branches in all credit concerns), credit analysis, and special asset management, oversee and coach the teams.
  • Engage in the bank’s credit policy creation, credit quality management, and strategic planning processes.
  • Supervise adherence to BOT requirements in the credit domain.
  • As requested by the Board, Board Committees, executive management, and regulatory bodies, submit reports in a timely and correct manner.
  • Collaborate with the business divisions. HR and the Compliance & Risk Department will ensure that lending rules and laws are effectively taught and trained.
  • Oversee the Special Assets Management division to ensure that the bank’s overall goals are met by the well-defined and efficient collections and recovery operations.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in any relevant discipline, including accounting, finance, business, economics, banking, or commerce
  • A master’s degree in any discipline relating to accounting, finance, investments, project management, business, economics, banking, or commerce
  • Lending Certification or Accounting Certification (CPA/ACCA/CIMA, for example).
  • Having postgraduate banking qualifications is an extra benefit.
  • Aa track record of success in managing bank credit.
  • At least ten years of suitable experience in banking and/or credit management, including relevant experience managing credit risk in a commercial bank. At least five of those years should have been spent at a senior level in organizations known for their effective credit management, with a track record of successful leadership in any banking division or business.
