VACANCY: POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW – 2 YEARS CONTRACT

The Aga Khan University is developing an interdisciplinary program of research at the Arusha Climate and Environmental Research Centre (AKU – ACER). As a flagship initiative of the University, the Arusha Climate and Environmental Research Centre leverages the site’s research opportunities in environmental science – including atmospheric sciences, ecology, environmental chemistry, geosciences, and social sciences. The land also serves as a hub for AKU and Simon Fraser University (SFU) to conduct community-based research and run programs that focus on collaborative, change-oriented, and inclusive community partnerships.

Benefits of research activities will cut across many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to the environment and climate action, including ACER’s capacity for carbon sequestration, as well as SDGs related to human health, water, clean energy, sustainable communities, hunger, gender equality and poverty.

JOB PURPOSE

For eligible candidates interested in conducting on-site research projects to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary studies at the AKU – ACER, there are options available through the AKU-SFU post-doctoral fellowship. In addition to contributing to analytical work, the candidate will become acquainted with the preliminary workings of a distinctive “living lab” research center. Supporting the planning and execution of the research project on food systems, climate change, and food sovereignty is the goal of this role.

There will also be some opportunities for international teamwork and research projects in Kenya, Pakistan, and Canada. It is required of the incumbent to take part in additional academic activity connected to the project, such as organizing workshops, conferences, and community outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent will ideally have finished their doctorate, usually in the last five years, and they intend to continue their further study at Aga Khan University and Simon Fraser University.
