Position Title: ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER (1 POST)

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• In addition to reviewing, planning, and executing environmental issues, the environmental officer is responsible for supporting Canuck’s HR department in making sure that environmental policies are effectively implemented, environmental campaigns are successful, and so forth.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE:

Environmental Officer has the following accountabilities and authorities:

• Carry out on-site the plans, programs, and strategies created for environmental management.
• Organize environmental projects and submit progress and result reports.
• As needed, draft written reports; create project and/or service briefs; and draft management plans, policies, and strategies.
• Contribute technically to the creation of Canuck Company Limited’s environmental policies, guidelines, and processes.
• Implement the program for reporting and investigating environmental incidents.
• Make sure that the soil, biodiversity, weather, noise and vibration, water quality, air quality, and soil monitoring programs are all maintained and carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
• Encourage the sharing of knowledge and provide all staff with environmental management training.
• Contribute ideas, standards, norms, objectives, policies, procedures, and/or laws pertaining to environmental quality to the HRM.
• Perform examinations, carry out inquiries, settle disputes, and take necessary measures.
• Undertake surveillance initiatives to bolster research, initiatives, and the creation of policies and protocols.

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as environmental engineering or science.

Experience:

• Two to three years’ minimum of experience in a large-scale operation managing the environment, ideally in the mining and extractive industries.
• Application experience with EHS management systems.

Must have knowledge of:

• Demonstrated familiarity with the international and Tanzanian legal frameworks governing environmental management in general.
• Familiarity with the ISO 14001 EMS implementation procedure
• Understanding of Health and Safety Concerns
• Systems for audit and emergency management.
• NEMC Audit and EIA Registrations
